How do I search this site?
Enter search terms in the “Search the Site” box at the top right-hand corner of the screen or select “Advanced Search” and enter text, a name, or a title to search for a specific work.
Can I save entries, searches, and notes?
Yes. Create an account under My Projects. Then save items by selecting “Save to Project” in the sidebar on the right side of pages.
How do I access my saved projects and searches?
Visit My Projects to access saved projects, with their entries, searches, and notes. You must be visiting the site from within your institution and have logged in with your user name and password.
Can an individual purchase online access to the Guide?
Individuals can purchase the print format through the MLA Bookstore. Only institutions can purchase online access to the Guide.
Is the Guide updated regularly?
Yes, twice a year. See “Update Information” for the changes that have been made.
Where are the indexes?
The indexes are not included in the electronic format, although they have been used to weight the results of the search function on this site.
How do I know if my library has a source I found?
Select “Locate in Library Catalog,” in the sidebar at the right of each entry’s citation, to see if your library owns a copy of the work you are viewing. This link appears only if your library has enabled this functionality. If you do not see the link, there are always links to WorldCat and Google Books, which will attempt to locate the title in their databases.
Are there differences between the print and electronic formats of the Guide?
Yes. The print volume has subject, name, and title indexes. The indexes are not included in the electronic format, although they have been used to weight the results of the search function on this site. The electronic format of the Guide also includes The Research Process, which outlines step-by-step the process scholars use to identify and locate primary works (printed or manuscript) and secondary works.
Have there been updates or corrections since the initial release of the fifth edition in print?
Yes. Full details are available in “Update Information.”
